THE MARNE

DEPARTURE FROM PORT DE SOLFÉRINO

CRUISES ON THE SEINE & MARNE RIVERS

A river escapade between Paris and the bucolic landscapes of the banks of the Marne.

An itinerary designed for you

From the Seine, the cruise gradually takes you to the Marne, famous for its peaceful landscapes and pastoral atmosphere. As you sail along, the scenery changes: the great Parisian monuments give way to the lush green islands, holiday homes and villages for which the guinguettes on the banks of the Marne are famous.

This route offers a real break from the city, between river heritage, popular history and nature.

01

From the Seine to the Marne

The cruise begins on the Seine, in the heart of Paris. From the boat, emblematic monuments pass by: the Louvre, Île Saint-Louis and the capital's historic quays. Gradually, navigation moves away from the center to the east of Paris, where the two rivers meet. This transition marks the passage from monumental Paris to a calmer, greener landscape.

02

Locks and river structures

On approaching the Marne, navigation passes through the Écluse de Saint-Maurice, one of the structures that regulate water levels between the Seine and Marne rivers. Passing through a lock is always a highlight of the cruise: the boat slowly rises and falls to the rhythm of the gates opening and closing, providing a concrete illustration of how river navigation works.

03

Islands and villages on the banks of the Marne

Once on the Marne, the landscape changes completely. The banks become more natural, punctuated by small islands and houses surrounded by gardens. The river runs alongside the communes of Maisons-Alfort and Bonneuil-sur-Marne, where you'll find several river islands such as Île du Moulin Brûlé and Île du Moulin Bateau. These landscapes have inspired many artists, and have long been a vacation spot for Parisians in search of nature.

04

The spirit of the guinguettes

The route continues through the heart of the famous Marne loop, known for its picturesque villages and friendly atmosphere. Since the end of the XIXᵉ century, the banks of the Marne have been associated with the tradition of guinguettes, those restaurants and party places where Parisians came to dance and have lunch by the water. This festive and popular atmosphere is still part of the identity of the river and its landscapes today.
